Govt mulls 2009 as Visit Nepal Year

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Prithvi Subba Gurung has informed that the government is mulling celebrating the year 2009 as the Visit Nepal Year to revive the tourism industry.

The nation had celebrated 1998 as the Visit Nepal Year.

Referring to Maoist extortion from tourists that increased in recent days, Gurung said they have been obstacles to improving the condition of the industry. "Maoists' activities have blurred the image of Nepal's tourism industry in international market," he said at a programme in Kathmandu on Saturday.

Besides, Gurung also claimed his efforts continue to end corruption in the Nepal Airlines Corporation and giving it more autonomy.
